Atacama Desert, Chile: a cross marks the symbolic grave of many of the disappeared.

This collection comprises trial transcripts, newspaper reports, news clips, photographs and other historical documents kept by different institutions in Chile.

It represents a unique history of the dictatorship period in Chile from 1973 to 1990, the effects of which are still reverberating today. It seeks to ensure that the memory of human rights violations and the defence of human rights is kept alive.

The records are held by the National Archive of Chile, Santiago and were included on the Memory of the World Register in 2003.
